Lucille P. Lorenz passed away peacefully on April 12, 2008 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was born October 29, 1917 in New Philadelphia, Ohio to the late Norman and Edna (Wenger) Beitzel. Lucille graduated from New Philadelphia High School in New Philadelphia, Ohio on June 6, 1935. She joined Broadway Methodist Church in 1932 and was a faithful member there for 72 years until she moved to Asheville, NC in 2004. Lucille was blessed with two happy and long marriages to two wonderful and loving men. She married Charles “Cheese” Edie on March 26, 1937. Cheese died of cancer on September 21, 1964. Several years later she married George Lorenz, who was a widower and long time family friend. Lucille enjoyed sports and was devoted to her family. She loved walking and golfing, even in her eighties. Lucille and George enjoyed many retired years of golfing and traveling to see their children prior to his death at age 91 in the year 2003. A year after George’s death, Lucille moved to Asheville, North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In August of 2005, she moved to Givens Estates, a Methodist retirement community in Asheville, NC. She lived there happily and independently until mid 2007 when she fell and was moved to their nursing facility. She had been in declining health since that time. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Fred (Bonnie) Edie of Gainesville, Florida, and Dr. Dan (Marge) Edie of Seneca, South Carolina; a daughter, Susan (Steve) Garwood of Asheville, North Carolina; and a step-daughter, Jackie (Rex) Tracht of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Edie; a step-son, Frederick Lorenz; a step-daughter, Cynthia Lorenz Troha; and a grandson, David Tracht.A private graveside service will take place at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The family will receive friends at Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.In honor of Lucille’s devotion to her church, her family requests memorial contributions be directed to Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church St. S.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
