Loyal S. Slabaugh, 76, formerly of Carrollton and Jackson, South Carolina, died peacefully, Monday, January 13, 2025, while in the care of Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
The youngest child of 13, Loyal was born in the family home in Carroll County, on May 19, 1948, a son of the late Glenn F. and Lucille M. Wilhelm Slabaugh.
Loyal was a 1966 graduate of Carrollton High School and spent his professional career as a self-employed contractor with many of his projects focusing on building, painting, and roofing.
As an avid outdoorsman, Loyal enjoyed hunting, fishing and hunting for mushrooms. He enjoyed collecting and sorting coins and prepared a special piggy bank for each of his grandchildren. He was also a fan of classic Western movies and TV shows and an animal lover who enjoyed caring for his beloved cat, Buddy. While Loyal preferred the warmer climates, for the past twenty plus years he shared his time between, Ohio, South Carolina, and Florida but above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and supporting their activities. As a proud father he was honored to have both of his daughters protect our country as they served as members of the United States Navy.
He is survived by two daughters, Heidi (William) Martineau of New Philadelphia, and Tiffany (Gordon) Jones; his grandchildren, Jacob (Jessie) Leach, Taylar (Josh) Ritz), Madysen Martineau, Richard Martineau, Corinne Schaffer, Symone Jones, and Jayden Jones; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Emma Leach; his former wife, Carolyn King, several siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Loyal was preceded in death by numerous siblings and a grandson, Jonathan Martineau.
In keeping with Loyal’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. A private burial will take place at a later date in the Marlboro Cemetery in Marlboro, Ohio. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.
