Louis H. Perko, 97, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Wainwright died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Park Village Retirement Center at Dover where he had resided for a short time.Louis was born June 14, 1907 at Bridgeport, Ohio to Anton and Mary Knoll Perko and had attended school at Wainwright.He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran based at Victorville, CA., a member of Sacred Heart Church and it’s Senior Citizens Club, a member of the former New Philadelphia Eagles, and had been a member of the Midvale Veterans of Foreign Wars. Louis had worked at various coal mines during his younger years and was retired as the caretaker of the R. W. Rutledge estate following 30 years of service.Louis is survived by his wife, Margaret A. “Maggie” Scardino Perko, whom he married April 24, 1948; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jean Perko, of Independence, O.; sister-in-laws, Opal Perko of Wainwright and Theresa Perko of Broadview Heights, O.; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Perko; and brothers, Anthony, Frank, John, Joe, and Henry Perko.Visitation will be Monday, December 6, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. with Christian wake services at 7:00p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia with military honors provided by the Midvale VFW.A reception will be held at St. Ambrose Hall following the committal.Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart School, 320 Fair Ave. NE New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
