Louis “Gene” Reidl

Louis “Gene” Reidl, 81, of Dover, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Park Village Healthcare at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Mineral City on August 18, 1930 to the late William and Gladys (Fiddler) Reidl, Gene was a 1949 graduate of Mineral City High.

He then continued his education at Motor Vehicle School. Gene joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country.

Gene’s professional career spanned 37 years as the owner of Reidl’s Garage in Mineral City. While working, he lived on his farm in Dundee.

After retirement, Gene lived in Leheigh Acres, FL near Ft. Myers and summered at Atwood Lake. In Florida, he volunteered with the Kiwanis Thrift Shop.

Gene also was an active member of the Boy Scouts where he had been a scout leader and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

He will be deeply missed by his family including his wife, the former Mary Joann Crone who he married on March 17, 1951; his children, Susan Reidl, Richard (Lynn) Reidl, and LuAnn (Steve) Limbacher, all of Dover, and Gena (Thad) Gerber of Strasburg; his sisters, Dorothy (George) Kreiger of New Philaelphia and Joann Gamble of Bolivar; and his grandchildren, Tony Mast and Trevor (Taryn) Mast, Marcy (Chuck) Whitfield, Rosey (Beau) Smith, and J. T. Reidl, Lindsay Limbacher, and Tyler and Miranda Gerber; and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Reidl.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave. at Dover on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. A service will be held Friday morning at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.

Friends are invited back to the hospitality room in the Geib Funeral Center where a meal will be shared following the committal service.
