Louis F. “Luke” Yager, 84, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Germano, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in Sherrard, West Virginia, Luke was born on July 8, 1933 to the late George H. and Frances M. (Yanak) Yager.
After completing his formal education, Luke honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Luke was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War. Luke worked for 34 years at the former Joy Manufacturing where he served as an expediter.
On December 28, 1958, he married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Janice L. Porter. Together they were blessed with the birth of their two children, Doug and Andrea. Together as a family they enjoyed many vacations throughout the United States and world. Luke also loved tending to his garden and astronomy.
Most importantly, he lived his life to serve others and make a difference for eternity. Luke was a devoted and active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where he served in every capacity, including a Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, and delegate to the church conference. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Lighthouse Youth Center at the church, being a founding board member. Luke rarely missed a Friday night and greatly enjoyed interacting with the students in attendance. He also belonged to the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship for many years, and was currently active in the Ourant One Room School Association in Harrison County.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Janice; his children, Douglas (Mary) Yager of Lititz, PA, and Andrea (Neil) Yager Boone of Prospect, KY; his grandchildren, Nathan and Luke Yager and Logan, Sawyer, and Preston Boone; his sister, Ernestine Stephens of AZ; his brother, James (Ella) Yager of Westlake; his sister-in-law, Kay (Chuck) Singer of Louisville; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Luke was preceded in passing by his brother, George Yager.
