Louis Eugene Scolati, age 91, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, September 16, 2011 following a period of declining health. A son of the late Ambrose and Mary Contini Scolati, Louis was born April 1, 1920 at New Philadelphia.He was a 1937 graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School at Dover. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, the former Rose Lucille “Posie” Pancheri, whom he married on August 5, 1944. As a couple they reared five children and celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to her passing on April 19, 2009.In 1941, Louis entered the United States Army and served in the South Pacific and was discharged In 1944, at the rank of Sergeant.A longtime member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia, Louis was an avid golfer and had been inducted into the Old-Timers Baseball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed weekly card games with dear friends, and neighbors Daphne Phillips and Red Elliot. Additionally, phone conversations with his buddy, Mac McGlothlin were shared daily.As a loving father, Louis is survived by his children, Carol (Joseph) Marzich of Salem, Ohio, Connie (John) Caravati, Cathy (Pat) Lahmers all of Dover, Louis (Sherry) Scolati of Waynesburg, Ohio and Laurie (Jeff) James of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Christine (Gary) Valko, Kimberly (Scott) DeBonis, Michael (Amanda) Marzich, Lisa (Mike) Feik, David (Tammy) Caravati, Steve Caravati, Jennifer Lahmers Bosworth, Shaun Paul, Alyssa and Evan James; eight great grandchildren, Rachel and Ava Grace Valko, Dominic and Anthony DeBonis, Alana and Drew Marzich, Madilyn Feik and Hayden Paul; and sister-in-law, Mary Cusano Bender.In addition to his parents and wife, Louis was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Scolati and a sister, Nancy McMillan.Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. Inurnment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
