Loris Dale Troyer, of New Philadelphia, shook his earthly bonds and planned one of love’s greatest escapes as he joined his beloved and recently departed wife Norma. Loris passed into eternal life on Friday, May 9, 2014 after a four-year battle with lung cancer.
Born March 31, 1935 to Ferman D. and Velma (Snyder) Troyer in Plain City, Ohio. An accomplished athlete, avid golfer and bowler, Loris married the love of his life, Norma (Murphy) Troyer on June 26, 1959, and they raised three children of whom they were very proud, Trent (Tammie) Troyer of New Philadelphia; Tami (John) Cunningham of Columbus, OH; and Trevor (Andrea) Troyer of Dublin, OH.
Loris was preceded in death by his wife Norma on May 5, 2014, his parents, brother, Dean Troyer, and grandson Andrew Nathan Troyer. In addition to his three children, Loris is survived by his brothers Jim (Pat) Troyer, and Merlyn Troyer; grandchildren Caitlin, Zach and Mark Troyer; Ben and Michaela Cunningham; Shae, Austin, Samuel, and Avery Troyer.
Loris was a 1953 graduate of Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School, served in the U.S Army from 1954-1956, and retired after 30 years from Greer Steel in 1993. Loris also worked other jobs prior to his long tenure at Greer including, railroad, brick laying, and Marsh Lumber. He and Norma also owned rental properties. A very good golfer, he continued to beat his son Trent well into his seventies! He played in golf and bowling leagues throughout the area. He had a great sense of humor and loved joking with his grandchildren.
A joint visitation for Loris and Norma will be held in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia, Monday, May 12, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A joint service celebrating Loris and Norma’s lives will be held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday beginning at 11:00 am with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial, with military graveside services for Loris, will follow in East Avenue cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service where a meal will be shared.
