Lorie Ann Stephens, age 52 of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover.
A daughter of the late George and Bonnie (Booth) Newton, Lorie was born in Twin City Hospital at Dennison on December 14, 1961.
She graduated from Claymont High School’s Class of 1979 and immediately began working for Lauren Manufacturing for 25 years. For the past 6 years, Lorie has been employed by the Timken Company at New Philadelphia.
In 1995, while working at Lauren, Lorie met the love of her life, Ron and on April 30, 2010, the couple was united in marriage. Together they enjoyed sharing their love of sports, collecting sports memorabilia, and rooting on their favorite teams. They especially enjoyed the Cleveland Indians and while their passions for sports teams were equal, often their team choices were not. Lorie loved the Dallas Cowboys, Ron cheers for the Cleveland Browns; even NASCAR was divided as Lorie had a deep love for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. while Ron prefers Jeff Gordon. For all their differences, they truly enjoyed watching Professional Bull Riding together, where they both could be heard cheering for the bulls.
Lorie loved competition as evidenced by her passion for sports; however, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy for hours on end and keeping her own score. Above all, Lorie was thrilled to be grandma and be surrounded by her family.
In addition to her husband, Lorie will be missed by her children, Dan (Stephanie) Stephens of New Philadelphia, Michelle Stephens of Toledo, and Jessica Stephens of Kent; her beloved grandchildren, Emma and Owen; her sister, Susan (Bob) Bair of Dover; her only & beloved niece Maddison Bair; four sisters-in-law, whom she considered as her own sisters, Linda Stephens of New Philadelphia, Becky Knecht of Tuscarawas, Crystal Schafer of Uhrichsville, and Vicky Eichel of Billings, Montana; mother-in-law, Sally Stephens of Tuscarawas; and many members of her extended family and friends.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, September, 28, 2014 from 1-3 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Scot Caley will lead a memorial service celebrating Lorie’s life at 3:00 PM. Following the service all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center.
