Loren W. Kalt

Loren W. “Butch” Kalt, 60, of Seymour, TN, formerly of Stone Creek and New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2003, in St. Mary’s Holsten Health & Rehab Center in Knoxville, TN after a 5-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.Born January 5, 1943, in Dover, he was the son of the late Seward W. and Florence Beahm Kalt. He attended New Philadelphia High School, and served in the United States Navy from l960 to l963 as a gunner’s mate 3rd class aboard the U.S.S. Canberra and the U.S.S. Bache. Loren was employed in l964 at the former Empire-Detroit Steel Mill in Dover, retiring in l995. He had a love of nature and outdoor life, and after his retirement, traveled throughout the United States for two years prior to settling in Tennessee. For the past two years, he was a seasonal worker for the Smokey Mountain National Park near Gatlinburg.He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 21 years, Alice Steinebrey Kalt; two sons and a daughter, Loren E. (Lynn) Kalt of Dover, Mark A. (Tamara) Kalt and Tracy (Patrick Walker of New Philadelphia; a sister, Barbara (James) Exley of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Patrick and Nathaniel Walker and Tessa Kalt; two step-grandchildren, Anthony Horton and Kristina Sablar; a special loving aunt, Lola Gibbs of New Philadelphia; niece and nephews, Sharon (Kelly) Ricklic and Mike (Anita) Exley of New Philadlephia, and David Exley of Dover; and numerous cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Susan Kalt, and a granddaughter, Payton Walker.Services for Loren will be Friday, October 17, 2003, at 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeffrey R. Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will be at East Avenue Cemetery. Following the committal, friends are invited to share memories with the family at a reception in the Geib Family Center. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 – 9 PM at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Baptist Hospice, P.O. Box 22, Knoxville, TN 37901.
