Lola E Gibbs

Lola E. Gibbs, age 90, of New Philadelphia went home to be with her Lord Thursday afternoon, December 1, 2011 in New Dawn Rehabilitation Center at Dover.Born in Jassie Hill, Pennsylvania on March 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Myrtle M. (Boyer) Beahm.After graduating from Midvale High School in 1940, Lola spent her professional career as a secretary and treasurer for both Goshen Coal Co. and Titan Mining. She retired as a clerk at the Bureau of Unemployment Services.Lola’s life centered around her faith, family, and her friends. She married her late husband, Gerald W. Gibbs, on July 23, 1941 and together, they welcomed their only son, G. Randall Gibbs into their family. She delighted in supporting his interests and hobbies, and later welcomed his wife, Nancy, their two grandchildren, their spouses, and her three great-grandchildren into her life. Her faith journey began at Midvale Methodist Church and then she worshiped at the former Goshen Church of the Nazarene and the First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia. At both churches she loved volunteering as a Sunday School teacher. She then attended the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia. In 2009, Lola became a member of the First Moravian Church in Dover, where she worshipped weekly with Randy and Nancy. Lola’s membership in the Midvale Club was a great highlight of her life also. There, she spent time nurturing friendships that she held close to her heart.She will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, G. Randall and Nancy Gibbs of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Rebekah (Ben) Cole of Massillon and Aaron (Gretchen) Gibbs of Bear, Delaware; her great-grandchildren, David Randall Cole, Landon Craig Gibbs and Simon Patrick Gibbs; her brother-in-law, Larry (Kay) Gibbs of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Sunday, December 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. A service celebrating Lola’s life will be held in the First Moravian Church on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be shared.Memorial contributions may be directed in Lola’s memory to the First Moravian Church, 319 N. Walnut, Dover, O. 44622.
