Lois M. Day, age 75, of Midvale, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, in her home following a two-year battle with cancer. A daughter of the late William and Virgil (Smith) Eberly, Lois was born at Dennison on August 30, 1934.She attended Dennison High School and soon after met a young man named Joseph Day. Following a brief courtship, the couple wed on June 20, 1952. Together they reared five children and shared in 51 years of marriage prior to Joe’s passing in December of 2003.For a period of time, Lois was employed by Valley Manor of New Philadelphia but soon returned home to spend her days as a caretaker for her family, a job she truly enjoyed taking on.She was known as an excellent cook and caregiver to her children, then grandchildren and eventually provided care to her great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with all of her family members. When her children were young, she also enjoyed caring for the neighborhood children and was affectionately known to them as “Mama Day”.During her free time, Lois found great joy in bowling, fishing and making weekly trips to play bingo. Additionally, she enjoyed the companionship of her dogs Penny and Kujo.Lois will be greatly missed by her surviving children, which include three daughters, Vickie Hykes of New Philadelphia, Pat Day of Uhrichsville and Chris Arnold of Midvale; a step-mother, June Eberly, four half-sisters, Lillian (Gene) Boggiani, Hilda Studer, Donna (Randy) Cadle, and Kathy (Tom) Sayre; and a half-brother, Leroy (Ellie) Eberly.Four grandchildren, Melissa (Lee) Zartman, Troy (Eileen) Day, Dana Gregg and Dakota Arnold; two step-grandchildren, Frank (Tracy) Hykes and Eric (Dawn) Hykes; three great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends complete her family.In addition to her parents and husband, Joe, Lois was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory F. Day and Douglas J. Day; a daughter-in-law, Marilee Maxwell-Day, two sons-in-law, Franklin J. Hykes, and Jerry Arnold; three brothers, William, Walter, and Charles Eberly a sister and brother-in-law Susie and Donald Stuber; and a brother in law, Sam Studer.The family will receive guests one hour prior to services on Thursday, July 22, 2010, from 9:30 â?? 10:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor Jim Huston will lead a memorial service celebrating the lives of both Lois and Joe at 10:30 AM in the Dover Funeral Center. Inurnment for the couple will immediately follow in the Dover Burial Park.The family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Lois be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
