Lois V. Jarvis

A woman of great faith and courage, Lois Virginia (Edwards) Jarvis went to her heavenly home with her family at her side on October 13, 2024, after battling a recent illness.

Lois was born in Rush Township on December 14, 1926, the youngest daughter of Daniel Kees and Anna Margaret (Rieker) Edwards.

On July 22, 1944 in the Rush Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. C. Hass, Lois married the love of her life, Dean Willis Jarvis, who she was blessed to celebrate 59 years of marriage with prior to his passing on January 2, 2004.

Shortly after marrying, they owned and managed the Jarvis Lumber Company and Jarvis Trailer Sale located across from their home in Stillwater. Naturally, they traveled in an RV and established a travel club tagged “Jarvis Drifters.”

After 41 years in Stillwater, they built a beautiful home in New Philadelphia where Lois enjoyed tending to her English garden and Dean enjoyed mowing.

Lois was a former and active member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church for many years and currently a member of Broadway Global Methodist Church. At Broadway, she served as a Trustee and Board member and participated in the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Additionally, she was a member of the County Ladies Auxiliary for the Gideons and volunteered with the Twin City Hospital Gray Ladies.

Lois was passionate about decorating her home with hand-picked antiques that she also finished to precision. She was also an expert seamstress in clothing, draperies, and upholstering furniture. She applied her love of nature to the landscaping projects she tackled for her homes.

Lois was a seasoned traveler throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, in addition to Mexico. They spent winters in Florida where she enjoyed cookouts and family time with her siblings. The most memorable trip was to the Holy Land where Lois was baptized in the Jordan River.

Lois’ family includes her children, Rodney (Jane Ann) Jarvis and Rhonda Jarvis Boot; four grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Jarvis, Michelle (Steve) McCue, Matthew (Lindsey) Boot, and Ashley Boot; seven great-grandchildren, Dean Jarvis, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Evans, Zack, Nate, and Ben McCue, John, and James Boot. Lois was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great-great-granddaughter. Her family was completed by numerous, close nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband; Lois was preceded in passing by all 7 of her siblings including, Rebecca Furbay, Vada Ravine, Maxine Sampson, Helen Clarke, two infant sisters, Ernest Edwards, Dallas Edwards, and Harold Edwards.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, 116 Second St. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, on Thursday, October 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. A Gideons service will begin at 7:45 p.m. A service celebrating Lois’ life will be held in the Broadway Global Methodist Church, 120 Church St SE, New Philadelphia, on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Harley Wheeler officiating. Burial alongside her husband will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.

Lois’ church family will host a luncheon following the graveside service. To allow for proper food preparation, anyone who wants to share in this time of fellowship is encouraged to call the church office at 330-339-1082 to let them know you are participating in this time of fellowship.

Lois led a purpose-driven life making the most of her years on this earth. To those who loved and admired Lois, her legacy is her abiding love for her faith, family, and friends.
