Lois J. Holland

Lois J. Holland, a life-long resident of New Philadelphia, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2004, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. She was 78.A daughter of the late Lewis E. and Eulah Starkey Walton, Lois was born September 13, l925, in New Philadelphia, and was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.On June 15, 1947, she married Hugh H. Holland, and devoted the next 56 years of her life to him and to their family. An avid traveler, she had a special interest in Mexican culture and traveled with her husband to Mexico on three separate occasions. She also enjoyed visiting the southeastern states and beaches in the couple’s Airstream. She took an active interest in her father’s business, Walton’s Auto Parts, serving as the company’s bookkeeper until her retirement.Lois was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia and was a generous supporter of numerous organizations including Compassion International and the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.She will be missed by her husband; her daughter, Lisa, and her son, Matthew, both of New Philadelphia; her sister-in-law, Irma Holland, of North Canton; and many, many friends.A service to celebrate Lois’s life will be conducted by her nephew, Rev. Scott Holland, on Saturday morning, January 10, 2004, at 11:00 am at the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Burial will be at East Avenue Cemetery.To honor Lois’s passion for giving, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her honor to the charity of the donor’s choice.
