Lois Hazel Landes

Lois Hazel Landes, 83, of Westlake, OH, formerly of New Philadelphia, died early Saturday morning in Fairview Hospital at Cleveland, OH, following a brief illness. Born in Cleveland September 10, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Blanche Hrbac Kazimore. Lois graduated from John Marshall High School at Cleveland. Mrs. Landes was a member of the New Philadelphia Chapter No. 222, Order of Eastern Star, and past member of the former White Shrine at Dover. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Landes always availed herself to serving others. She had volunteered for the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Tuscarawas County YMCA. She was also active in the Boy Scouts of America during her son’s involvement. An avid reader, Mrs. Landes enjoyed reading on most subjects, particularly mystery novels. Needlework and crocheting were other interests held by Mrs. Landes. On July 18, 1942, she married the late Roy Landes, who after forty-nine years of marriage, preceded Lois in death on February 9, 1992. Together, they raised a family that includes a daughter, Sharon Maclean of Olmsted Township, OH; a son, Gary (Donna) Landes of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Heather Maclean of North Olmsted; two grandsons, Jeffery Maclean of Grafton, OH, and Russell Landes of New Philadelphia, and a great-granddaughter, Devan Landes also of New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to call Tuesday morning from 10 until 11:30 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Pastor David Wing of the Dover Foursquare Gospel Church will lead a funeral service at 11:30 Tuesday morning in the funeral home’s chapel. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Cremation will be conducted locally in the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory following the service. In appreciation for the thousands of hours of entertainment and knowledge gained by her love of reading, the Landes family encourages memorial contributions to the Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Avenue N.W., New Phliladelphia OH, 44663.
