Lois Elaine Geib, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at The Inn at Northwood Village in Dover on Saturday, May 16, 2015 following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on July 31, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George Grant Telle, Jr. and Miriam Lois (Robart) McCullough.
She was a proud Dover Tornado, graduating from Dover High School in 1946. She then attended Bowling Green University, worked at the former Reeves Bank and also at the former Fenn College.
On June 5, 1949, Lois married her lifelong friend and soulmate, the late Richard D. Geib. While Rich spent many hours working at their family business, Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, Lois was always ready to greet him with a warm meal, a passionate kiss, and a squeeze on the cheek. Their deep love for one another was evident to anyone who spent time around them. “Luscious” was always quick to say that she chased Rich, until he caught her. The Tornado/Quaker love affair spanned 59 years until Rich’s passing on February 20, 2009.
Together, their faith was nurtured at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia where they held many positions of leadership. Lois taught Sunday School for numerous years and participated in women’s groups throughout her lifetime.
They also loved vacationing at their cabin on Jack Lake in Canada; where many peaceful years of fishing, reading, and napping were shared.
Lois also enjoyed her social involvement with the Junior Clionian Club where she was past president. She was blessed with many lifelong friendships established within that club and others. Lois also was a member of the New Philadelphia Eastern Star.
Lois will be deeply missed by her children, Amy (Patrick) Moeller of Dover, Richard (Cathy) Geib II of New Philadelphia, and Robert (Lydia) Geib of Lake Tahoe, California ; three grandsons, Chris (Lacie) Geib of Portland, Oregon, Tim Geib of Asheville, North Carolina, and Noah Geib of New York, New York; five granddaughters, Anne Geib (Greg) Dorris of Dover, Mandy (Matt) Hooper of Dover, Missy (Jeff) Miller of New Philadelphia, Julie (Billy) Otten of Cincinnati, Sarah Geib of Boston, Massachusetts; her great-grandchildren, David Geib, Jacob and Caroline Hanner, Emily, Benjamin, Madelyn, and Connor Hooper, Caleb, Dylan, and Grace Carlisle, Ally Miller, Henry and Harvy Otten, and Rebekah and Jeremiah Dorris.
She will also be missed by her brother, George (Lynn) Telle, of Dover; her sister, Jane (Dan) Coenen of Dover; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Geib of Stockton, California. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends complete her family.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 5 to 8 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
The Rev. Jeffery Gerber and Pastor Brian Flood will celebrate Lois’ life during a 10:30 funeral service Thursday morning in the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, with visitation in the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial alongside her husband will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following interment, a reception will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 North Wooster Ave., Dover.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Geib Family Foundation, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization created by Rich and the Geib Family in 2004 for the benefit of the community, in the care of Huntington National Bank, PO Box 100, Dover, OH 44622 or to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
