Lois Aldene Celuch

January 10, 1927 — February 14, 2014

Lois Aldene (Hoobler) Celuch, 87 of New Philadelphia passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Aldene was born January 10, 1927 on a farm near Jewett, Ohio to James Samuel and Irma (Moore) Hoobler. She attended Jewett High School until 1942, when her family moved to their “dream” farm near Newcomerstown. She graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1945 in a rather small class due to the enlistment into World War II.

On June 23, 1947 in Hayettesville, Maryland, Aldene married Joseph A. Celuch, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2000. The couple began life together in Newcomerstown, where she worked as the secretary for the Superintendent of Newcomerstown Schools. After moving to New Philadelphia, she worked at the Citizens (Reeves) Bank, and later was a loving full-time mother during the years her children were at home. She loved to talk to people, and became active in school and community activities, and when her health permitted attended the Midvale United Methodist Church. Aldene was a life-long member of Oriental Chapter #102 of the Order of Eastern Stars in Newcomerstown, Ohio and was initiated nearly 70 years ago on June 17, 1946. She was a volunteer at Union Hospital and also had an interest in politics serving as a poll worker for several years.

Joe and Aldene had three sons, James (Sheryll) of New Philadelphia with whom she resided, Jeffrey (Suzanne Hendricks-Celuch) of Cincinnati, and Joseph (Brenda Butler) of Frazeysburg. Grandchildren include Tessa (Nate) Klaiber, Talin (Joseph) Petrullo, Emily (Sebastian) Mains, Caleb (Lauren) Celuch, Ethan Celuch, Joss (fiancé, Hilary Tedrow) Celuch, Ethan Devyak, and Eli Devyak. She has three great grandchildren, Arden Klaiber, her “day brightener” Adlee Klaiber, and Emery Petrullo and another on the way. She is also survived by her “adopted” son Joseph “Jack” (Terri Evans) Jones of Brightwood.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Bob and Myron Hoobler. She is survived by Sisters-in-law Grace Anne Hoobler, Nancy Hoobler, Janice Celuch and Agnes Svetik and numerous neices and nephews.
