Lindwood R. Reese, 68, of New Philadelphia (Roswell), died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at his home.A son of the late Edward B. “Bailey” and Elizabeth “Lizzy” McKnight Reese, Lindwood was born July 23, 1936, in Roswell, Ohio. He was a 1955 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a member of the high school’s 1953 championship football team. He served two years in the United States Army, and, following his honorable discharge in l961, became a steel worker with Canton Drop Forge.An avid sports fan, Lindwood played baseball for the Roswell A Baseball League and was inducted into the Tuscarawas County Baseball Hall of Fame in l992. He enjoyed watching football and basketball, often providing accurate color commentary to other spectators. He was known in his community as a successful gardener, hunter, and fisherman.A devoted family man, Lindwood will be missed by his wife of 38 years, Sarah E. “Salli” Pugh Reese; daughter Elizabeth “Beth” (John) Reese-Brice of Cincinnati, OH; step-grandchildren, Jason (Valerie) Brice of Phoenix, AZ and Stephen Brice of Cincinnati; sister, Ramona (Bill) Erwin of New Philadelphia; brothers, Jim (Barb) Reese of New Philadelphia and Raymond (Nancy) Reese of Sherrodsville; sister-in-law, Margaret (Rodney) Hatten of Bethel Park, PA; brother-in-law, Arthur Pugh of Cleveland Heights, OH; nieces, Jamie Reese-Miller, Lisa Reese-Cutlip, Candy Marinelli-James, Debra Baxter, and Joan Hatten-Sherbak; nephews, Matthew Reese, Brad Reese, Eddie Marinelli, John Marinelli, Scott Hatten, Steve Hatten, Matt Hatten, Andy Pugh, Kevin Pugh, and Eric Pugh; special cousins, Mike Reese and Rod Reese; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Reese.Visitation will be Friday, August 27, 2004 from 5 Â? 8 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory with Christian Wake services beginning at 8:00 pm. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 10:00 am and will be followed by a procession to Dover St. Joseph Church where Father William Arnold will conduct a Rite of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.A reception at the Roswell Community Center in Roswell will follow the service.At Lindwood’s request, he will be cremated under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, and a private committal service will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery in Roswell.Memorial contributions to honor Lindwood’s life may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.
