Lillian Pauline Penrod, age 84, of Brightwood, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Arnold and Irene (Pimpedly) Zontini, Sr. Lillian was born at Ecorse, Michigan on February 11, 1928.
She was a 1946 graduate of the former Midvale High School and furthered her education by attending the Canton Actual Business College. In 1952, Lillian began working for Joy Manufacturing at New Philadelphia and served the firm for 38 years as an Application Engineer where she specialized in orders for the United States Navy.
A longtime member of the former St. Paul’s Catholic Church at Midvale, Lillian was a member of the Altar Society and an active participant in the church’s fundraising activities prior to its closing and became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia.
Lillian was also involved with the New Philadelphia Lady Elks, and the Tuscarawas Valley Ladies Golf Association. She was an avid card player of the games Yass and Bridge. Among her other interests were her love for cooking and baking, which earned her the nick-name “The Cookie Lady” among friends and neighbors.
Lillian leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years, Clyde W. Penrod, whom she married on May 31, 1952; a son, Ronald E. (companion, Sherry Wickliff) Golder of Columbus; a brother, Arnold (June) Zontini, Jr. of Fairfield, Kentucky and a sister, Arlene M. (Charles L. “Larry”) Tinker of Dallas, Georgia.
Five nieces and nephews, Greg (Kim) Zontini, Kelly (David) Mehl, Lisa (John) Sutton, Michelle (Paul) Hegenberger, and Todd (Susan) Tinker as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews complete the family.
In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Zontinti, and a great-niece.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 6:45 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
Following services the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
