Lillian Margaret Sims, age 93, formerly of New Philadelphia died, Thursday, September 11, 2014 in Hennis Care Center at Dover.

Born on May 17, 1921, Lillian was born at Farmingdale, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Elias and Ida (L’Hommiedu) Kessler.

Lillian graduated from Manasquan High School at New Jersey and on September 5, 1943 married Jack E. Sims, Sr. Together the couple raised six children and shared in 64 years of marriage prior to Jack’s passing on January 30, 2007.

For many years, Lillian was employed by Union Country Club at Dover where she worked in the kitchen. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She leaves behind her family; four daughters, Sandra Cox, Renee (Dan) Jackson, Nancy (Mark) Homan, all of New Philadelphia and Becky (Rick) Espenschied of Strasburg; sons, Jack E. (Christine) Sims, Jr. of New Philadelphia and Gary (Tonja) Sims of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Tracey (Kenny) Steinbach, Carrie Jackson, Shannon (Shawn) Kettering, Kevin (Brittany) Espenschied, Melissa (Alex) Deibel, Amanda Homan, Chelsea Sims; great grandchildren, Ashley, Colleen, and Tristan Steinbach, Amelia, Eliza and Oliver Kettering, Luca Deibel, Kaden Halsey, and two expected great-grandchildren.

Completing the family is a sister, Alice Bowne of New Jersey; a brother-in-law, George Smith of Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas Cox; a sister, Ann Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward (Betty) Kessler, Jerry (Catherine) Kessler, and Albert (Jean) Kessler, and a brother-in-law, Les Bowne.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following the mass, a time of food and fellowship will be shared in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
