Lewis Ross Robin, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, March 22, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover, with his loving family by his side.A son of the late Eugene and Myrtle (Hoover) Robin, Lewis was born at Girard, Kansas on September 29, 1924.A young man of the depression era, Lewis grew up selling “brick chili” and pies that his mother made in order to help the family make ends meet. During that same time period, his family trained and raised the offspring of Roy Rogers’ horse, Trigger. On February 28, 1943, Lewis would marry the former Viola Fairbee and together the couple would rear eleven children and recently had celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary.Lewis made a career of being an over the road driver, being self-employed for many of those years and specializing in the hauling of steel coils from area factories. Following his retirement, Lewis took to the road again with Viola at his side as they traveled throughout the United States in their RV. There were a number of interests that Lewis was involved with throughout life which included the HAM Radio, the CB Radio, and his bichon frise, Fluffy. Most of all, Lewis enjoyed the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He delighted in sharing stories of his youth and telling jokes or quipping about a member of his family.In addition to his wife, Lewis will be missed by four daughters; Shirley (Dean) Ady of Texas, Barbara Robin of New Philadelphia, Linda Miller of Texas, and Connie (Joe) Pattison, of South Carolina; six sons, Ronnie (Debbie) Robin, Donnie (Virginia) Robin all of Texas, Lonnie (Linda) Robin, Kenneth (Kathy) Robin all of New Philadelphia, Gary (Holly) Robin of Dennison, and Roger (Carlie) Robin of Uhrichsville.Thirty-seven grandchildren as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Stein; a grandson, Rick Hicks; two brothers and two sisters.The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2010, from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Reverend Hugh B. Berry, will lead a service celebrating Lewis’ life in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
