Leslie Charles Polen, age 78, of Mineral City passed away, Tuesday evening, November 27, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover following heart complications.
Born on August 21, 1934 on the family farm in Sandy Township, Tuscarawas County, Leslie was a son of the late Floyd and Nora (Rice) Polen.
He graduated from the former East Sparta High School and began a career as an independent truck driver. He later joined the Quaker State Oil Refinery at Magnolia where for years following he served the company as a truck driver and later worked as a dispatcher until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Sandyville Eagles, and attended St. Paul’s Community Church at Mineral City and Bisel United Methodist Church at Dover.
Leslie also enjoyed motorcycles and traveling; having visited more than 50 countries world-wide.
He is survived by a daughter, Reva Mishler; a son, Brian L. Polen and a grandson, Chad Miller all of Plantation, Florida.
In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by his wife, Luverna B. Polen whom he married on June 7, 1953 and celebrated 44 years of marriage prior to her passing on July 8, 1997.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastors Roger Warnes and Mark Gross will lead a service on Monday, at 1:30 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Sandyville.
Memorial contributions in Leslie’s name may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
