Leslie Ann Wilson, 65, of New Philadelphia passed away Thursday morning, April 3, 2014, in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born April 2, 1949 in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Paul Lavern and June Lucille (Manley) Happoldt.
After completing her formal education, Leslie worked as a librarian with the Stark County District Library for 30 years. In 1977, she moved to the Tuscarawas Valley with her lifelong companion and friend, the late Ronald B. Wilson, whom she wed on April 21, 1971 in Canton.
Together with Ron, Leslie enjoyed her active membership with the Tuscarawas County Heritage Home Association. She also was an active member of the Valley Quilt Guild.
Leslie volunteered for the cat shelter for 7 years, Mainstreet New Philadelphia for 4 years, where she cared for the flowers on the square. She also gave of her time to the Schoenbrunn Village where she served as a costumed interpreter.
Hiking, dancing, and yoga were all activities she found great enjoyment doing. Leslie was a gifted fabric artist who enjoyed creating hand sewn quilts and cloth dolls. She also loved restoring her historic home.
Leslie is survived by her brother, Greig Happoldt of Lancaster, Ohio; and several close friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Robyn A. Happoldt and Lindsey A. Weston; and her step-mother, Marjorie E. Happoldt.
A memorial service celebrating Leslie’s life will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastors Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Following the service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall.
Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
