Leroy Hilary Chitti, age 85, of New Philadelphia died peacefully, Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Park Village Retirement Community at Dover.
A son of the late James and Carmella (Lavorata) Chitti, Lee was born at Roswell, Ohio on December 11, 1928.
He was a 1948 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and entered into the United States Air Force from 1950-1952.
Upon his discharge, Lee began working for the former Reeves Steel at Dover and following 32 years of service retired from the former AK Steel.
Lee was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison and most recently became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. He was also actively involved with the Knights of Columbus where he held a 4th degree knighthood.
For many years, Lee enjoyed camping at Tappan Lake. He was an avid vegetable gardener who also loved tending to the flowers in the beds around his house.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, Gerry (Ann) Mroczkowski of Dover, Marlene Mattevi of Columbus, Michael (Donna) Chitti, Becky Chitti, Cathy Smitley all of Sherrodsville, Daniel (Mary) Chitti New Philadelphia, Jim (Kathy) Chitti of Prestonburg, Kentucky, Joe Martinez of Florida, Linda (Steve) Decken of Vermont and Bill Ivan of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Helen Chitti of Prestonburg, Kentucky and a brother-in-law, Peter Mroczkowski of Dover.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Mroczkowski, Rose Martinez, Dominic Chitti, and Frank Chitti and a niece, Connie Ivan.
Friends are invited to join the family for a brief visitation and prayers beginning at Noon on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning on Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. Inurnment with military honors will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery at Roswell.
