Leonia E. Smith

Leonia E. Smith, 90, a resident of Park Village Health Care, and formerly of Citrus Springs, Florida, passed away November 7, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Leonia was born January 23, 1928 in a log cabin at Schoenbrunn Village. She was a daughter of the late Wilbur L. and Ida Zimmerman.

Leonia was married June 14, 1946 to Louis R. Smith at the time of his passing on May 13, 2013. They were married 67 years. For many years, Leonia, along with her husband, were owners/operators of Farmer Smith’s Market in New Philadelphia. Upon relocating to Naples, Florida, Leonia worked for Publix Supermarket, retiring after 10 years of faithful service.

Leonia leaves behind a family that includes a daughter, LuAnn (Danny) Hagey; sons, Tom (Linda) Smith, Louis (Shirley) Smith, Jim (Becky) Smith, and Jeff (Adele) Smith; nine grandchildren, Tracie, Donovan, Clint, Josh, Michael, Tisha, Nathan, Casey, and Heather; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Leonia is also survived by her brothers, Wilbur (Skip) Zimmerman, Stanley Zimmerman, Steven Zimmerman; and a sister, Debbie Cook.

Leonia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Donald W. Zimmerman and Gerald Zimmerman.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 5 – 6 PM on Monday, November 12, 2018 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor, Mark Maddux will lead a service in the funeral home’s chapel beginning at 6PM. Cremation care will follow through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
