Leonard Milton Huff, 96, of New Philadelphia, passed away in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia on Saturday evening, March 21, 2015 following a period of declining health.
Born in Breeding, Kentucky, on February 20, 1919, he was the son of the late Henry Allen and Hudoxie (Williams) Huff.
After completing high school, he joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country during World War II.
On February 14, 1942, he married the love of his life, the former Mary Helena Martini. They celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2008.
Together they worshiped at Sacred Heart Church. They also loved traveling the area attending the performances and dancing to the music provided by the “big-band” groups of their era.
His professional career spanned a number of years with the Railway Express Agency in Dennison, 24 years at the former Warner & Swasey and ultimately retiring from employment with the State of Ohio.
Leonard is survived by two grandchildren, Stacy (Tim) Sepelak of Willoughby, Ohio and Steve (Ileana) Bongini, of Miami Beach, Florida; and his great-grandsons, Andrew and Evan Sepelak.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mary, Leonard was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Kay Bongini on March 17, 2006; his son-in-law, Eugene Bongini; and 8 siblings.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors.
Friends are invited to St. Ambrose Hall, located beside Sacred Heart Church, following the committal service, where a meal will be shared.
