Leonard Dean Pounds, age 74, of Dennsion, and formerly of Uhrichsville, died peacefully late Thursday evening, March 15, 2007, in Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center. Born at Dennison, December 11, 1932, he was a son of the late John F. and Pauline Hicks Pounds and his stepmother, Mildred Pounds, who resides at Uhrichsville. Better known as Dean to his family and friends, he was a man who lived life to the fullest. An outgoing, gregarious, fun loving guy, Dean made fast friends and wooed admirers with his musical talent. In addition to a rich singing voice, he played the guitar, the banjo, and the harmonica and was a proud member of the local band, The Back Porch Rejects. Leonard was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both of Uhrichsville. In addition to his busy social schedule, Leonard delighted in cooking Â? especially around the campfire – where his soups were legendary Â? and neighboring campers would line up with their own bowls to share a great meal. Leonard wasted nothing in life, which resulted in him doing some woodworking on leftover wood. His craftiness and carvings were all given as gifts to his extended family and friends. Leonard leaves behind his companion of more than twenty years, Carol Loper Byers, of Dennison. His family also includes daughters Kathy (Tim) Green of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Starla Pounds, Chone (companion Ray) Williamson of Uhrichsville, Cherie (Ken) Burns of Uhrichsville, and sons Murray W. Pounds of Eureka, Missouri, and Eric (companion Pat) Gilmore of Uhrichsville. Granddaughters Anessa Billiter of Bradenton, Florida, Tiffany Creager and Tara Pounds of New Philadelphia, Raquel (Joe) Pittman of Jacksonville, Florida, Miranda Page of Dennison, and Kendra, Allie and Brittany Reichman all of Tuscarawas. Grandsons Derek (Isma) Gilmore of Panama City, Florida, Thomas Gilmore of Camp Lejune, North Carolina, Zack Gillmore of Uhrichsville, Ablert Rypien of Camp Lejune, North Carolina and Kc Page of Dennison. Sisters Bonnie Dewalt of Galion, Ohio, JoAnn (Earl) Clouse of Uhrichsville, Doris (Bob) Miller of Mayer, Arizona, and brothers, John L. Pounds of Dennison, Frank (Linda) Pounds of Mansfield, Ohio, Bob (Carol) Pounds of Dover, Larry (Sue) Pounds of Troy, Ohio. Nine great-grandchildren complete the family. In addition to his mother and father, two sons, Leonard and Phillip Pounds, a daughter, Carrie Reichman, a sister, Wanda Pounds, and a brother, Virgil L. Pounds, preceded Leonard in death. At this request, cremation will be conducted without and public visitation or services. His family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at an open house Sunday afternoon, from 2PM Â? 5PM in the social hall of the Uhrichsville Moose.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 201-A West Ohio Avenue, Dover, OH 44622. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
