Leona M. Fockler

Leona M. Fockler, age 87, of Stone Creek, died early Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover.A daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Baker) Affolter, Leona was born at Uhrichsville on February 24, 1921.Leona was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School and on May 3, 1941, she married Lester Fockler and as a union the couple reared five children.Aside from tending to her family, Leona had many different hobbies that included crocheting, doll making, and quilting. Her most cherished past time however, was tending to her flower beds and gardens outside of her Stone Creek home. Leona took great pride in making sure that all of her flowers were well maintained throughout the year.Following 54 years of marriage, Lester passed in 1995. Leona is survived by four children; two daughters, Marie (Curly) Endlich of Stone Creek, Jean (David) Endlich of Newcomerstown; two sons, Lloyd Fockler of Stone Creek, and John Fockler of New Philadelphia and his fiancée Linda “Jane” Combs; one sister, Betty Troendly of North Canton and two brothers, Francis Affolter of Canton and Terry Affolter of Newcomerstown.Nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a son, Lee Fockler, and three brothers, Jerry, Don and Paul Affolter.The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 11:00 AM â?? 1:00 PM. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor William Haggis will lead a celebration of Leona’s life in the Dover Funeral Center at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
