Leo David Gauthier, 91, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Sarasota, Florida, and Rhode Island, died Thursday June 23, 2005, at the Hennis Care Centre in Dover.A son of the late Antonio and Aldea Biron Gauthier, Leo was born August 31, 1913, in Michigan.He retired from Quonset Naval Air Base in Quonset, R.I.; where he worked as a Rigger, building towers. Leo also built towers for many Rhode Island police departments.He was a devout Catholic, and a member of the Phenix Sportsman Club of Coventry, R.I.; where for many years he served on the athletic committee.He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Rita (Bill) Fox, of New Philadelphia; sons, Richard Leo Gauthier, of Johnston, R.I. and Roland David Gauthier and wife Susan Scott, of Livingston, TX; sisters, Lena (Paul) Vanasse, of West Warwick, R.I. and Florence (Robert) Plante, of Coventry, R.I.; eight grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, step great great grandchild and faithful companion of 13 years, his toy poodle, Muffin.Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his three wives, Lucy Eva, Marion and Marjorie; sisters, Angelina Sieniawski, Lea Trudeau, Claire Cotnoir, and Lucille Lemoie and his brothers, Napoleon “Nap” and Henri Gauthier.Services for Leo will be held in Rhode Island at a later date, and burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Warwick, R.I.Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions to honor Leo’s life may be sent to the American Cancer Society- Area office #12, 201-A West Ohio Ave., Dover, OH 44622
