Lenore K. Arnold, 90, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday morning, July 27, 2003, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born July 2, l913, in Sugarcreek, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Nora B. Knecht Finzer. Following her graduation from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School in l930, she attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music for two years.She married William K. Arnold on her birthday in l933, and the two shared nearly sixty-three years of marriage before his death on March 24, l996.Known throughout the community for her commitment to her church and for her musical abilities, Lenore was a long-time member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia where she was former choir director and a member of the Chancel Trio which included the late Isabelle Maurer and the late Mary Moffit. She also was a very active member of the Tuscarawas County YMCA, rising at 6 AM every day for her morning swim.Lenore is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Bruce) Vansickle of Virginia; four grandchildren, Douglas Arnold of Michigan , Mary (Steve) Viggiano of Connecticut, Erin (Randall) Whitty of Connecticut , and Katie Vansickle of Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Gabriella Viggiano of Connecticut; and many, many loving friends.Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, her son, Kirkwood G. Arnold; a grandson, Brenton K. Arnold; one brother; and four sisters.Services to celebrate Lenore’s life will be on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 11 AM in the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia with Pastor Jeffrey Gerber officiating, and will be followed by burial at East Avenue Cemetery. At the graveside, a balloon release of 90 colorful balloons will honor Lenore’s ninety joyous years of life! Visitation will be Wednesday evening, July 30, from 5 to 8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. The family requests that memorial contributions to honor Lenore be made to the First United of Church of Christ, 201 Fair Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, OH, 44663 or to the Tuscarawas County YMCA, 600 Monroe Avenue, Dover, OH, 44622.
