Lena C. Davis

Lena C. Davis, 98, of Dover, died peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, March 17, 2003, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.Born in Salem Township, Tuscarawas County on August 6, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Clara E. Bock Frank.After she completed her schooling, Lena worked for the New Philadelphia schools, Tuscarawas County, and the State of Ohio’s Department of Aging before finishing her professional career at The Times Reporter where she retired in 1969.Throughout her rich life, she was a life member of the New Philadelphia Order of the Eastern Star, the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, and the Public Employees Association. In addition to the organizations she participated in, she was a long-time member of the First United Church of Christ, New Philadelphia.Together with her husband, Elmer B. Davis, whom she married July 2, 1931, she raised three children, Marilyn (Carl) Pissocra of Dover, Shirley (Alan) Krantz, of Chicago, Illinois, and James (Ruth) Davis of Dover. She will be deeply missed by her ten grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, also. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles (Frances) Frank of Bolivar and Howard Frank of Gnadenhutten and one sister-in-law, Marion Frank of Port Washington.In addition to her parents and her husband, Elmer, who died on March 2, 1947, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.Friends may call Thursday, March 20, 2003 from 10 to 11 am at the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. Rev. Jeffery Gerber will officiate a funeral service immediately following visitation at 11 AM in the church. Burial will follow alongside her husband at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A meal will be served in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home following the committal service.
