Laverna M. “Verna” Mutti, 102, of Stone Creek, died Sunday, April 10, 2016 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Martin Luther and Irene J. (Cline) Mizer, Verna was born February 26, 1914 at Stone Creek, Ohio.
Verna graduated from Stone Creek High School in 1932. She then worked as school teacher and served various schools throughout Tuscarawas County for 25 years.
On Christmas day in 1940, she married the love of her life, Charles C. Mutti and together they reared four children, Faye, Janet, Martha and Glenn. The couple shared 64 years of marriage prior to Charles’ passing on January 1, 2005.
Verna was a member of Jerusalem Church where she was a former Deaconess and Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, the Rebecca Circle and It’s Quilters.
She is survived by her children, Faye Huprich of Sugarcreek, Janet (Jerry Sr.) Horn of New Philadelphia, Martha (Randall) States of Quincy, Washington and Glenn (Carol) Mutti of Stone Creek; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; a great grandson, Bryce Horn, and her siblings, Erma Flinner, Madeline Shutt, Audrey Ott, Michael, Chester, Carl and Russell Mizer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Jerusalem Church. A funeral service celebrating Verna’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with G. Russell Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at the church following the committal service.
