Lavearn L. Zimmerman

Lavearn L. Zimmerman, 73, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. She was born December 1, 1928 in New Philadelphia to the late Jacob Walter and Mary Olive Cook Shear. LaVearn attended New Philadelphia High School. On May 12, 1946 she married Donald W. Zimmerman in her uncle’s New Philadelphia home. The couple met at Newberry’s Department Store where LaVearn worked. For many years, LaVearn baby-sat for many area family’s children. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Donald L. (Cathy) Zimmerman of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Pamela L. (Sean) Jarvis of Virginia Beach, VA and Zackery Zimmerman of Medina; one sister, Velma Gibbs of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Carl (Cathy) Long of Atwater and Wilbert Shear of New Philadelphia; three great-grandchildren, Natasha, Nicole, and Aaron Jarvis; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Other than her parents, LaVearn was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Zimmerman, sisters, Marge Trucinski and Alice Miller and two brothers, Robert and Clyde Shear. The funeral will be Thursday, May 9, 2002 at 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Elder Glenn R. Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Calling hours will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
