Laurie Christine Sherer

Laurie Christine Sherer, age 45, of New Philadelphia, and formerly Strasburg, died Sunday evening, January 25, 2009, in Akron General Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born at Dover, August 29, 1963, she was a daughter of Levi and Donna Lengler Raber, who survive, and reside at Strasburg. Laurie attended Strasburg Schools and Buckeye Career Center, where she studied to be a nurse’s aide. Following graduation in 1981, she worked at Union Hospital as a nurse’s aide. For many years, Laurie worked at the former Super K-Mart, and for the past six years, delighted in working with her colleagues at Adventure Harley Davidson.When not at work, Laurie enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, knitting, reading, caring for animals, and adding annually to her bear collection. Laurie leaves behind a family that, in addition to her parents, includes her husband of twenty-two years, Michael Sherer, of New Philadelphia. The couple wed September 13, 1986. She’ll be sadly missed by her two sons; Logan and Francis Sherer, of the home at New Philadelphia, a special nephew; Connor Pierce of Strasburg, two sisters; Susan Raber of San Diego, California, and Amanda (husband Alexander) Pierce of Strasburg, as well as her many friends from Adventure Harley Davidson, who complete her extended family. Friends are invited to call Saturday morning, January 31, from 8:30 â?? 10:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 North Wooster Avenue. The family planned especially early visiting hours to accommodate Laurie’s friends who may already have a busy Saturday scheduled.The Rev. Hugh Berry will lead a service at Geib Funeral Center celebrating Laurie’s life Saturday morning at 10:30. Immediately following the service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the hospitality suite of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences to the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
