Laurel Lynn McAbier

Laurel Lynn McAbier, 82, of Strasburg, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia, following a brief period of declining health.

Born in Dover, Laurel was the daughter of the late Kenneth Gephart and was a vibrant spirit whose love for life was infectious. A beloved grandmother, she found her greatest joys in spending time with her grandchildren, creating happy moments that will remain in their hearts forever. Her playful nature and incredible sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She also indulged in one of life's little pleasures, taking delight in pampering herself with trips to get her nails done—a ritual that brought her a sense of joy.

Laurel is survived by her three daughters, Sherrlye (Rick) Huprich of New Philadelphia, Jennifer Passmore and Chuck Burwell of Carrollton and Shannon (Kevin) Hursey of Newcomerstown; six grandchildren, Seth Huprich and his fiancée Tiffany, Ian (Tori) Huprich, Kenneth (Sara) Passmore, Brandon (Allison) Passmore, Josh Hursey and Stephanie Faingnaert; seven great-grandchildren, Alana, Greyson, Lily, Jameson, Violet, Estella and Thomas; three sisters, Jean Sheppard, Jo Ann (Mike) Sullivan, Cathy (John) Yamashita and a brother, Andy Harsin.

In addition to her father, Laurel was preceded in death by her grandson, Chaz Huprich, a sister, Linda Foster and her “sister-in-life”, Pat Kneuss.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a celebration of her life will be scheduled in the future.
