Laurel L. Rose, 64, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, May 03, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness.Born May 30, 1938, in Canton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Goddard & Ida G. Evans Owen Sheldon. Laurel was a graduate of Conotton Valley High School and a 1976 graduate of San Diego City College. She entered the US Navy April 21, 1957, and worked in the airways office as an air traffic controller before being honorably discharged on September 15, 1958. She grew up in the Atwood Lake area, then lived in San Diego from 1972 Â? 1988, and finally returned to Ohio and settled in New Philadelphia. Laurel enjoyed music and playing the drums. Surviving are three daughters, Kimberley Pierson and (Francis Hoffman) and Tamara (Ray) VanFossen of New Philadelphia, Jane (Joe) Brownlee of Reynoldsburg, a son, Daniel (Penny) Rose of Gnadenhutten; three sisters, Christine (Wayne) Walker of Keithville, La, Lorraine (Dennis) Lacher of Atwood Lake, Carol Dickson of Mansfield, La; two brothers, Paul (Pam) Owen of Strongsville and Peter Owen of Boliver. Seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert J Sheldon and grandson, Steven T. Salari.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Carol Clements officiating. Burial will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery.
