Laureen Kay Swinderman, age 44, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord early Friday, December 25, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover following a sudden illness.A daughter of John and Sally (Paddock) Bigler of New Philadelphia, Laurie was born on May 30, 1965 in Union Hospital at Dover.A lifelong, Quaker supporter and a graduate of New Philadelphia High School’s class of 1983, Laurie would go on to hold a number of positions in areas that involved caring for children. For a number of years, Laurie worked in the Children’s Department of the Tuscarawas County Public Library, as well as the Tuscarawas County Y.M.C.A. and Even Start Preschool Programs. She most recently had opened her own home to provide child care to eight children and was also working as a teacher’s Aide in East Elementary School at New Philadelphia. Laurie was maternal by nature and gave loving care to not only her own family but for each of the children she cared for throughout the years. Every child was someone special to her and she effortlessly built a bond with those she encountered.Supporting the sporting activities of her three sons was a passion of Laurie’s. In general, Laurie was a fan of all sports; however, she held a special spot in her heart as an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. She also enjoyed being a member and supporter of the Quaker Ladies.Laurie’s great spirit for enjoying life will be deeply missed by her family which in addition to her parents, includes her husband Jeffrey Swinderman; three sons, Cory (fiancée, Jessica McKenzie), Casey Swinderman, and Kyle Swinderman, all of the home.Two sisters, Elaine (Dan) Booth of New Philadelphia, Kathy (Todd) Korns of Dover; mother-in-law, Virginia Swinderman; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Diana Swinderman all of New Philadelphia as well as six nieces and two nephews and numerous friends complete the family.Laurie was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Glenn Swinderman, a brother-in law, Ronald Swinderman, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.The family will receive friends on Monday, December 28, 2009, from 2:00 Â? 4:00 and 6:00 Â? 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead a service celebrating Laurie’s life on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia. Immediately following the service the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
