Laura Milliken, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, October 23, 2006 in Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.A daughter of the late Corlies “Tommy” and Gladys (Worthley) Thompson, Laura was born September 5, 1923 at Tiffin, Ohio.She graduated from Columbian High School in 1941. She worked for United States Glass Company at Tiffin and then at Ohio Power Company at Tiffin and New Philadelphia.Laura was a member of the First Church of God. She had a beautiful singing voice but most of all she will be remembered by her family and friends who were recipients of her hand made greeting cards.She is survived by her loving husband, Dean Milliken, whom she married on August 27, 1950; two daughters, Marcia (Bob) Liggett of Bolivar and Mary Anne (Gary) Spargrove of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Brian Liggett, Brett (Jami) Liggett and Erica Lynn Spargrove; and two sisters, Lois Thompson of Round Rock, Texas and Wilma MacNeil of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.Laura was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ellen.Family and friends may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Matt Roe officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the services, a memorial reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the First Church of God at New Philadelphia.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Laura’s name to First Church of God, 824 Tuscarawas Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
