Laura Gump, age 37, of Akron, and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away suddenly late Friday afternoon, August 16, 2013, in Akron General Medical Center following a month long battle with Melanoma.
Born March 19, 1976 at Dover, she was a daughter of Doris Echelberry Gump of New Philadelphia and the late Edward S. Gump, Jr.
A 1994 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Laura went on to earn a bachelors degree in accounting from Kent State University, and, in 2012, earned a masters degree in Finance from Ashland University. For the past seven years, she had worked for the Timken Company in the accounting department at Canton and had recently been assigned to T.S.B.M. Recycling, a Timken subsidiary at Akron.
Laura will be remembered as an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, having been a season ticket holder for many years in the Dawg Pound. She traveled regularly to follow the Browns on the road, was a member of the Browns Backers, and once traveled to Arizona just to show her support for the team.
Ever community minded, Laura was a volunteer for Rebuilding Together of Summit County, as well as the Humane Society, and was a parent to three daschunds.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her brother, Doug Gump of Dover.
Several uncles, aunts, and cousins complete the family.
The Gump family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where the Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service for Laura at 7 pm in the funeral home’s chapel.
Burial will follow alongside her father, in Holmes Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield OH 44406.
