Larry Fisher, 64, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in University Hospital at Cleveland following a courageous four month battle with cancer.A son of the late Harlan and AnnaBelle (Popa) Fisher, Larry was born December 24, 1946 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Larry graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1965. Then on June 12, 1967, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, Larry was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal along with two Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal.He retired from Wonder Bread at Dover in 2004 where he worked as a Supervisor. Larry was also a veteran football official receiving his 25 year pin at the conclusion of last season. He officiated all levels of football and was a member of the Tuscarawas Football Officials Association and the Ohio High School Athletic Association.Larry was also an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and racing â?? especially building race cars with his grandson. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and often could be found cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers only to keep peace with other family members. He was also a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Larry enjoyed visiting casinos and was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.He is survived by his wife, Linda (Roth) Fisher whom he married on May 6, 1999; two sons, Kevin (Dawn) Rector of New Philadelphia and Kelly (Angela) Rector of Jackson Township; a daughter, Crystal Fisher of Dennison; his grandchildren, Jessica (Grant) Smith, Kyle Rector, Tiffany Walton and Corey Fisher; two great grandchildren, Kolton and Amelia Smith; a sister, Carole (Richard) Harmon of Bolivar; a brother, Michael (Sally) Fisher of Columbus; his beloved dog, Benji and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.The family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park at Dover. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Hospitality Room in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and view an online memorial by visiting the funeral home website.
