Larry E. Barnhart, 69, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Bowerston Hills Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Donald and Catherine (Phillips) Barnhart, Larry was born January 21, 1947 at Sugarcreek, Ohio.
Larry graduated from Garaway High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from which he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a longtime employee of Alsco at Sugarcreek and he enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Carol, especially to Kentucky and Tennessee.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Charlotte Barnhart of Sugarcreek and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol (Kenny) Barnhart who passed away on October 22, 2000, a brother, Dean Barnhart and a sister, Faye Barnhart.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.
