Larry Dale Cross

Larry Dale Cross, 75, of Uhrichsville, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

A son of the late John Franklin Cross, Norma (Bigler) Cross-Leone and Nick Leone, Larry was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 10, 1940.

Larry attended the former Midvale Schools and entered into the United States Air Force. For many years he was employed by Aspen Tree Service at South Carolina and when the family returned to Ohio, Larry was employed by Topeka at the Dennison Rail Yard, where he worked on restoring box cars.

He was an avid hunter, fisher, and outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and spending time at Wills Creek near Kimbolton with his family. He was a member of the former Big Country Sportsman’s Club as well as a longtime member of Sugar Hill Wildlife Club.

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Sylvia James, whom he married on November 14, 1959; their children, Larry “Wade” (companion, Mandy) Cross of New Philadelphia, Tina (Sheldon) Rainsburg of Dennison, Dianna (Tim) Whytsell of New Philadelphia, and Jeanie (companion, James) Cross of Midvale.

Completing the family are 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; his siblings, Pat, Carol Ann, Robert, and Richard as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, mother, and step-father, Larry was preceded in death by siblings, Virginia, Thomas, Margie, Raymond, and James as well as a grandson, Clint.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation will take place. Private services will be held at a later date. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling cremation care.
