Larry Allan Newton, age 52, of Strasburg, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a courageous battle with both Aspergillus and Ankylosing Spondylitis.Born at Dover, Ohio on April 20, 1958, Larry was the son of Larry E. (Kristie) Newton of Strasburg and Mary Ellen (Richard) Gurney of Dover.Following the completion of his education at Strasburg High School, he spent his lifetime as a woodworker. He created beautiful masterpieces for his family and friends in addition to restoring existing furniture. Larry’s talented hands also created a variety of crocheted items including sweaters and afghans.One family pastime that Larry greatly enjoyed participating in was gathering at a bonfire and spending the evening with people he loved.Larry leaves his family with a legacy of faith in God, love for one another, and a strong work ethic.In addition to his parents, Larry will be deeply missed by his siblings including Eugene (Beth) Newton of Uhrichsville, Ted (Cindy) Newton of Roswell, Todd Newton of California, Teri (Shawn) Arnold of Arizona, Traci (Rance) Marmet of Navarre, Greg (Kim) Gurney of Dover, Jamie (Gil) Maize of Alabama, Todd (friend, Tina) of New Philadelphia, and Terri; his best friend since the age of 4, Steve Bucevac of Massillon; and friends, Cheri and Shannon; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Somerdale Maranatha Bible Church, 6097 State Route 212 Mineral City, O. A service celebrating Larry’s life will begin at 6 p.m. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the church fellowship hall for a reception.Memorial contributions in Larry’s memory may be directed to the Larry Newton Memorial Fund, c/o Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union 119 Fillmore Avenue, Dover, OH 44622.
