L. Kay Johnson

Leah Kay Johnson, 75, of Dover, died peacefully Sunday afternoon in the Howell, Michigan, home of her daughter, Becky, with her family at her side. Born in Scio February 21, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Poulson Thomas. She was a 1945 graduate of Scio High School.Kay worked at Scio Pottery, East Sparta Ceramics, and ultimately General Electric prior to her retirement. In January, 1946, she married the late John C. Johnson, Jr. Together they raised a family that includes a son, John Johnson III, and his companion Renee` Gasser of Dover; daughters, Linda (Tom) Carpenter of Kilgore, Barbara (David) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, and Rebecca (Clyde) Pearch, of Howell, MI.She will be sadly missed by grandchildren Steve (Staci) Carpenter of Lancaster, Jeff (Melissa) Carpenter of West Chester, Robert (Tabitha) Given of Dover, Melissa (Chris) Billheimer of Canton, Zachary Pearch of Howell, MI, Jill (Chris) Lipinski and Jacklyn (Brian) Proctor of New Philadelphia and Alison (David) Schultz of Westland, MI. Ten Great-Grandchildren survive, Ryan, Cara, Craig, Kyliegh, Korey and McKenna Carpenter, Jeremy and Shiloh Given, and Austin and Zachary Schultz.Leah is also survived by sisters Alice (John) Hidey, Joanne (David) Henry, Judy Oxley and Donna Johnson, all of Scio, Joyce (Harry) Ritter of West Chester and Marilyn King of Dover. In addition to her parents, her husband John, who died in April 1982, and a brother, Richard Thomas, preceded Kay in death.At her request, there will be no public visitation. Rev Hugh Berry will officiate a private family service in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow later this week at Fairfield Cemetery, in Jewett, Ohio. In gratitude for their care to Mrs. Johnson and her family, memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan, 400 Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48201, are encouraged.
