Kenneth S Zimmerman

Kenneth Steiner Zimmerman, age 91, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday evening, June 15, 2012 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover, following a period of declining health.

Born January 24, 1921 in Ragersville, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Eliza A. (Steiner) Zimmerman. Kenneth was a 1939 graduate of Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School.

On April 20, 1946, Kenneth married his loving wife of 66 years, the former Melva V. Mutti. Together, they worked their dairy farm in Ragersville. He was a member of Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ, where he served as deacon and elder for numerous years. He also served on the 1965 building committee when the kitchen and full basement was added to the church.

Other memberships included the Ragersville Historical Society, the Sugarcreek Museum, the Tuscarawas County Senior Center at Dover, and the Ragersville Community Council where he served as secretary for 20 years and treasurer for more than 15 years.

Kenneth enjoyed volunteering for Mobile Meals in the Dover/New Philadelphia for 18 years and the Sugarcreek/Ragersville area for 15 years. Kenneth and Melva owned a 1924 Overland, participating in numerous car shows and parades. Fishing in his farm pond was also a hobby.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Melva; his sister, Ruby Burkey of Toledo; and 3 nephews and 1 niece.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his sister, Opal; and two nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Kenneth’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Darcy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be shared following the committal service.
