Kelly Arthur Lattner, 78, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, December 14, 2009 in his home.A son of the late Joseph and Melba (Kelly) Lattner, Kelly was born January 20, 1931 at Salt Lake City, Utah.On July 7, 1950, Kelly enlisted with the United States Air Force. He served as an Airmen 2nd Class with the 70th Bomber Squadron and received an honorable discharge on June 23, 1954.Kelly was a long time heavy equipment operator and retired from Ohio Operating Engineers. He was a member of the Dover V.F.W. and served as a past Governor of the former New Philadelphia Moose Lodge. During his younger years, Kelly took part in many rodeos and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed playing the steel guitar.He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Clark) Wardell Lattner of the home; a daughter, Rhonda (Robert) McCaslin of Dover; a son, Douglas (Cindy) Lattner of Montrose, Pennsylvania; a step-son,, Donald (Carol) Wardell of Newcomerstown; grandchildren, Kyle Lattner of New York, Amber Lattner of South Bend, Indiana, Ashlee Lattner of Montrose, Pennsylvania; Alisha, Robert, Caitlin and Jace McCaslin all of Dover; step grandchildren, Tiffany (Nic) Wardell Rettos of West Lafayette, D. Matthew (Kate) Wardell of Tuscarawas and April (Kaden Klein) Wardell of Newcomerstown; great grandchildren, Nevaeh Weston, Dominic and Marco Rettos and Raiden and Charlotte Wardell, two brothers, Ronald (Joan) Lattner of Banks, Oregon and Harvey (Edith) Lattner of El Paso, Texas and his mother-in-law, Marcella (Stuber) Clark of Strasburg.Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter, Sandra Wardell and his father-in-law, Clifford Clark.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Kelly’s life will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with the Dover V.F.W. rendering military honors.
