Keith W. Sankey, 74, of New Philadelphia, a cherished father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, in Aultman Hospital at Canton.
Born on February 22, 1950, in Coshocton, Keith was the son of the late Arthur D. and Vesta N. (Senter) Sankey and lived a life full of dedication, service, and love for his family.
A 1968 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Keith was honored to serve his country after being drafted into the United States Army. Keith served with distinction during the Vietnam War, where he proudly earned multiple medals including a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifices. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. His military service shaped much of who he was and instilled a profound sense of patriotism that he carried with him throughout his life. He was a very giving individual and often donated to charitable organizations.
Keith worked for Fenton Brothers Electric at New Philadelphia, where he retired after many years of committed service in customer service. His work was characterized by his integrity and willingness to assist others, qualities for which he will be remembered.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Keith was a devoted family man. He took great joy in coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams in their younger years, demonstrating his strong commitment to fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. Keith cherished the bonds formed through these experiences and loved attending his children's and his grandchildren’s various sporting events, always rooting for them with enthusiasm and pride. Golfing with his son was another passion of his, providing moments of connection and enjoyment that marked the father-son bond. Keith was a lifetime Cleveland sports, Buckeyes and NP Quaker fan.
Music also played a significant role in Keith’s life, providing him joy and a means of expression. He would often find solace and inspiration in the tunes that resonated with him.
Keith is survived by his three children, Nicole Sankey of Dennison, Drew Sankey of New Philadelphia and Taylor (Nathan) Staley of New Philadelphia; his four grandchildren, Phoebe Sankey, Liza, Baker, and Sadie Staley; and two sisters, Carol Schlegel and Jane Hahn; and numerous nephews and nieces.
