Kathryn, “Katy” Waers, age 69 of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 29, 2008.A daughter of the late Franz and Nora (Terrall) Sayre, Katy was born on February 1, 1939, at Cambridge, Ohio.Katy was a graduate of New Concord High School and on August 26, 1962, she married Gene Waers. For a number of years, Katy worked for Anderson Medical as a Laboratory Technician and following her retirement found a new career, volunteering.Katy loved the summers for two reasons, one it was hot, she hated Ohio winters and made that fact well known; and two she could spend her time volunteering for her favorite organization, Trumpet in the Land. Katy deeply enjoyed her summers at “Trumpet”, and was quite often found working the concession stand with her good friend, Mary Jo Brown.In addition to her volunteer work, Katy was a deeply devoted mother and housewife. No one ever came to her house with out taking at least a small sampling of her homemade chocolate chip cookies or famous brownies.Never one to sit for long, Katy also cared for and looked after the many friends in her neighborhood. She was famous for popping in and out of the houses that surrounded her own several times a day.In addition to her husband, Katy is survived by three children, a daughter, Terri (Mark) Renner of New Philadelphia; and two sons, Rick Sayre also of New Philadelphia and Gene Waers, Jr. of the home.Three grandchildren, Tabitha (Christopher) Helwig, Joshua Renner, and Jermey Renner and one great-granddaughter, Lily Helwig Complete the family.Katy will also be missed by two very good friends, Francie Peters and Mary Jo Brown.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 1:00 â?? 3:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor David Carrick will lead a service celebrating Katy’s life at 3:00 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Inurnment in the Northwood Cemetery at Cambridge is planned for a later date.In honoring Katy’s passion, work, and dedication to Trumpet in the Land, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Trumpet in the Land, 1994 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
