Kathryn Viola Osborn

October 2, 1920 — June 18, 2004

Kathryn Viola Osborn, age 83, of New Philadelphia, died Friday in Union Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Mineral City, she was the only child of the late William and Mary Zurfley Lockard. Kathryn grew up in Mineral City just a few doors down from the boy who would become her husband, the late Robert J. “Red” Osborn. The two were married on August 31, 1946 and spent 48 years together before his death on January 8, 1995. Kathryn was a 1938 graduate of Mineral City High School. Following school, she went to work at the U.S. Ceramic Tile Company in East Sparta where she worked as a tile inspector. Mrs. Osborn was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, a former member of the Ladies of the Elks # 510 in New Philadelphia, and Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, which met in Memorial Hall at Dover. She was also affiliated with the Mineral City First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a niece, Phyllis Murray of Coalport, PA; nephews Richard (Mary) Cropper of Navarre, Jack Cropper of Mineral City, Bob (Judy) Cropper of Melbourne, FL, and Rod (Carol) Cropper of Bolivar; and her longtime caregiver and second cousin, William L. and his wife Kathy Pompey, of New Philadelphia; as well as many other cousins, relatives, and friends. Assoc. Minister Jill Lovett will lead a funeral service celebrating Mrs. Osborn’s life Monday morning at 10:30 in the Chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to call one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover.
