Kathryn Maurer

Kathryn Maurer, 84, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.

A daughter of the late James Casper and Mary (Shea) Spittle, Kathryn was born April 30, 1931 at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

On July 23, 1947, Kathryn married the love of her life, Donald H. Maurer and together the couple raised three children, Karen, Kathy and Dale. The couple shared 67 years of marriage prior to Don’s passing on September 24, 2004.

She was an avid bowler having recorded a 700 series game. Also, along with her husband, Kathryn founded the Star of Tomorrow Program to encourage young bowlers. In her younger years she was quite the seamstress and spent many painstaking hours completing the embroidery for the bowling uniforms.

Kathryn was also a member of the Union Grange and in 2010 she was recognized for 60 continuous years of membership.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Don) Angel of Strasburg, Kathy Archinal of North Canton and Dale (Robbie) Maurer of Hope, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Donald and Terry Maurer and Christie Ayers all of Hope, Arkansas, Steve Angel of Richmond, Indiana, Stacy Schneider of Strasburg, Jen Niedermayer of North Canton and Mike Archinal of Medina; 16 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Mary Kalec of New Philadelphia.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Peggy Davis and Eileen Emery and three brothers, John, Charlie and Robert Spittle.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Kathryn’s life will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Lynn Houze of Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Hospitality Room in the Geib Funeral Center.
