Kathryn J. “Candy” Haakinson, 84, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 at New Dawn Health Care Center in Dover, O.A daughter of the late Jacob and Florence Neusdorfer Kopp, Candy was born on Dec. 13, 1920 at Uhrichsville, O.She was a 1938 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She worked for her father at the Kopp Candy Wholesale Company in Uhrichsville, where she acquired her nickname “Candy” which represented the products distributed by her father.Candy was an active bowler and enjoyed playing golf. She especially enjoyed her volunteer hours at Union Hospital where she worked as a volunteer in the psychiatric ward and with the hospital auxiliary.She is survived by her husband William “Bill” Haakinson whom she married August 16, 1942 at the First Methodist Church in Uhrichsville; one daughter, Patricia A. (Hal) Alles of Lake Oswego , Oregon; two sons William A (Roanne) Haakinson of Batesville In. and Jack L. (Becky) Haakinson of New Philadelphia; six grandsons, David (Shana) Alles and Jason Alles of Oregon, Brian Haakinson and Matthew Haakinson of Batesville In., Andrew Haakinson of Columbus, O. and James Haakinson of New Philadelphia; three granddaughters, Margaret Haakinson of Chicago Il., Elizabeth Haakinson of Batesville, In. and Nichole Haakinson of New Philadelphia; and one great grandson, Cody Haakinson of Batesville, In.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Kopp.Visitation will be today, Tuesday May 10, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Sue Koenig on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel.
